Roots of a Stewardship Economy: Wahkohtowin & Mikro-Tek
What are Indigenous-led natural climate solutions? Wahkohtowin Development is leading an innovative example in Treaty 9 territory. Consistent with their stewardship economy strategy with Mikro-Tek, the Indigenous-owned social enterprise, Wahkohtowin, is tapping into the power of mycorrhizae – the natural partnership between soil fungi and plant roots. The approach involves inoculating tree seedlings with these beneficial fungi to reduce reliance on herbicides and boosts tree growth and survival, generating a new revenue stream from carbon finance.
At the heart of the vision is a new kind of economy, rooted in Indigenous rights and responsibilities, where conservation finance is reinvested in Indigenous Guardian Programs and long-term stewardship. Hear about this vision and the policy challenges and opportunities ahead, as Wahkohtowin advocates for clearer pathways for Indigenous Nations to lead natural climate solutions in their territories.
Full Moon Gatherings & Webinars
Since 2023, the RAD Network has hosted virtual Full Moon Network Gatherings to deepen relationships, learn from one another and envision pathways forward. We come together around the time of the full moon to connect and reflect on one question or theme. To view recordings from previous gatherings, check out our YouTube Channel. Sign up for our mailing list to receive event announcements and join us at our next virtual gathering!
Voices from the Indigenous Lands Symposium
At the 2025 Indigenous Lands Symposium hosted by Wahkohtowin Development, RAD Network harvested stories and perspectives with support from Wolf Eye Productions, Karim Rizkallah, Amberly Quakegesic, and Delta Flood. Participants reflected on what the symposium meant to them and what it means to all of us when we come together in ceremony to connect and energize our shared vision for a sustainable future.
RAD Voices
This short film features Indigenous voices from coast-to-coast-to-coast sharing their stories and perspectives at our Vision Gathering, “Envisioning the Indigenous-led Conservation Economy”. Watch the video for a glimpse of the gathering and hear from some of the diverse but aligned voices that are coming together to create our emerging network.
Directed by Jeremy Williams (River Voices Productions).
